RYAN, Gregory Albert, - 85, Port Hawkesbury, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Port Hawkesbury, on March 6, 1928, he was the son of the late Augustus and Theresa (MacDonald) Ryan.
He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Port Hawkesbury. He worked on the Extra Gang for the CNR for many years. In later years he worked for the Town of Port Hawkesbury.
He is survived by his sister, Theresa Peeples, originally of Mulgrave, now residing in Elmsdale; also a number of nieces and nephews. He was raised by his aunt, Cassie MacIsaac, Port Hawkesbury and is predeceased by his mother, father, step-mother, Tena (Grover); sister, Cassie Goodwin, two in infancy; brothers, Allan, Francis, Leonard, Bernard, Angus and Gussie.
A special thank you to Bonnie Hines, of Princeville, where Gregory spent his last number of years with great love, comfort and care.
Visitation will be Friday, July 26, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with vigil service at 2 p.m. both in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Parish Cemetery Fund. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
