MURPHY, Kenneth MacLean - 91, Glendyer, and a resident of Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, died Sunday, July 3, 2005, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Port Hood, he was a son of the late John K. and Jessie (MacKenzie) Murphy and stepmother, Emma (Reynolds) Murphy. He was a fisherman for 17 years and worked in the Halifax Shipyard during the war, at the Heavy Water Plant, and Port Hood Mines from 1949 to 1979. He owned and operated Doire Maple Farm, Glendyer. Kenneth was a member of the Mabou-Hillsborough United Church, and in his youth he taught Sunday school and the mission band. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Harriet (Smith) Murphy; sons, Floyd (Gloria), Vancouver, B.C.; Clifford (Mary Mae), Sydney; Danford (Debbie), Glendyer; daughters, Ellen MacIsaac, Mabou; Janet (Lyndsey), Vancouver, B.C.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.; sisters, Kathleen, Lurline, Bernice, Gwendolyn, Myrna; brother, Bowden; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mildred. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the family residence, 179 Murphy's Hill Rd., Glendyer. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Mabou-Hillsborough United Church with Linda Stumpf officiating, assisted by Rev. Bernie MacDonald. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Kenneth may be made to the Elmwood Cemetery Fund, Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society or Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
