MURPHY, Joseph Patrick 'Pat' - 90, Lower Sackville/Fox Island, Guysborough Co., passed away May 1, 2006, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII. Born in Fox Island, he was a son of the late George and Julia (Boudreau) Murphy.
He served overseas during the Second World War with the Pictou Highlanders. After the war, he worked as a fisherman and also worked for many years at the Canso fish plant. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 46, Canso, and Star of the Sea Parish, Canso. For the past 12 years, he was a member of St. John Vianney Parish, Lower Sackville, and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 7077. Pat is survived by his wife of 64 years, Veronica (DeCoste), Halifax; sons, Patrick (Christine), Fox Island; Joe (Debra), Canso; Michael (Linda), Lower Sackville; daughters, Diana Ehler (Danny), North Grant; Sandra Doiron (Lavin), Lower Sackville; Monica O'Leary (late Roger Roy), Sudbury, Ont.; sister, Bernadette Sinclair, Truro; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Jimmy; brothers, Donald, Emmett, Hughie, Reg, Wilfred; sisters, Elizabeth, Eva, Irene, and Anna.
Visitation will take place from 2-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be Friday, May 5, at 11 a.m. in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, Principal Concelebrant Father Daniel Boudreau, Concelebrant Father Peter Baccardax. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice. Special thanks to all the staff of 4 East, Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax.
