Paul, Michael John, Sr. – 62, Waycobah First Nation, Inverness Co. It is with sad but heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Michael John Paul Sr., Monday, February 22, 2010, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, after losing his brave battle with cancer. Born in Sydney on April 10, 1947, he was the son of the late Andrew Paul and Annie Michael. He worked as a carpenter, pulp cutter, fisherman, but his most important job was being a caring dad and grandfather. Michael was a beloved father, grandfather; husband, uncle, brother and friend, and he will be missed each and every day. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Geraldine “Mulch” Googoo, and his sons, Michael J. Paul, Jr. (Shannon), Jason Paul (Helen Denny), and Harrison Grant Peter (Shawla); grandchildren, Kyle, Tikisha, Leon, Hope, Jason Dwayne “J D”, Roman, Mise’l, Becky, Alexa, Von, and Harrison Jr., all of Waycobah First Nation. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Andrew (Betty), Peter Michael, both of Eskasoni, Joe Mike (Grace), Waycobah, Colin, Eskasoni, Douglas (Alice) and Andrew “Jr.” both of Waycobah and sisters, Mary Ann Martin (Steve), Waycobah and Mary Pauline Poulette (Peter), Eskasoni and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by his son, Dwayne Michael Paul, brother, James, and sisters, Mary Louise Simon, Mary Agnes Marshall, Dorothy Marshall, Mary Rose Cabot, Mary Ellen Paul, and Annie Catherine “Katie” Googoo. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the nurses and doctors at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Victoria County Memorial Hospital, who took care of Michael in his last days, and a special thanks to Dr. Carlyle Chow, Dr. Roland Genge, and Dr. John Ritter. We would also like thank those who came to the hospital for visits and those who cared for him during the long nights. From the depths of our hearts, we thank you. Visitation for the late Michael John Paul will be held after 5 p.m. Sunday, February 28th, at the family residence 18 Mama & Papa’s Lane, Waycobah. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2nd from Blessed Katerie Parish, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Waycobah First Nation, with Father Robert McNeil officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh.
