POTTIE, William Vincent ‘Vince’ - 89, Glendale, Inverness County, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Halifax on January 12, 1922, he was a son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Poirier) Paté.
A veteran of World War II, he served as a bombardier in the Battle of Britain and as a member of the infantry in Italy. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. Vince later served as part of the UN Peacekeeping mission in Zaire and Cyprus. He was the last surviving member of his family and was predeceased by his brothers, Francis and Edmund; sisters, Mary (Lohnes) and Louise (Cleveland). Vince is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy (MacDonald).
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday March 9 in St. Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church, Glendale, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial at a later date in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Vince may be made to charity of choice.
