PROCTOR, Lester Joseph – Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law and uncle passed away peacefully on February 17, 2012, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, at the age of 93. Born on February 9th, 1919 to the late Jim and Annie (Burke), Lester worked for CN Rail as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years. He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Mary Kathleen (McNamara); sons, Bernie (Sandi), Lower River Inhabitants; Ronnie (Margie), Troy; Steve, MacIntyre Lake; Allan (Marilyn), Sampsonville; daughters, Patsy Mooring (Sonny), Port Hawkesbury; Mary (Angus), Prince George, BC; Elaine, Lower River Inhabitants; Dianne Hunt (Randy), MacKenzie, BC; Sandra MacInnis (Dennis), Antigonish; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are special friend, Sheila Scanlan, the Morgan Family of Whiteside and Jim LeVangie of Florida. Lester was predeceased by an infant daughter, Joanne Marie; son, Edwin James; brother, Percy and sisters, Vida Morgan and Emily LeVangie. Dad spent his retirement years fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. His love of fishing is a legacy that he has handed on to many of his grandchildren. He was an accomplished woodworker and he also loved to make "stuff" that made his and everyone else’s life more easier. One beautiful memory dad left us all is that he never failed to go out and pick Mayflowers for our mother every year on her birthday. Other than his family and fishing there was nothing dad loved more than music. He could always be counted on to break out into song at a family gathering and even sang on his 93rd birthday last week. The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Jim Collins, Dr. Paul Pluta and the nursing staff of the Strait Richmond Hospital for taking such good care of him in his final days. A very special thank you as well to Lester Dan Morgan, who spent many hours at his bedside. Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain. Visitation will be held from 2-9p.m. Tuesday, February 21, in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral Mass will be 10a.m. Wednesday, from St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants, with Father Barrett Clare- Johnson officiating. Interment to take place in the parish cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society, or to St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Fund.
