Power, Cynthia Alice, 92 – Antigonish, formerly of Queensport, Guysborough Co., passed away at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish on Monday, August 20, 2012. Born in Queensport she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Violetta (Feltmate) Williams. She was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Queensport. As a young teenager Cynthia worked for Matthew & Scott’s Lobster Factory, at the age of 16 she moved to Halifax and worked in the diet kitchen of the VG Hospital until 1945. She then married Pat and had six children. In 1954 she lost her husband in a tragic accident, Cynthia moved back to Queensport to raise her children. Later she worked in a nursing home in Toronto before moving home again to care for her parents. Her many interest included knitting, quilting and a good game of 45’s with a glass of Baileys. Cynthia was a very spiritual person who dedicated her life to her family and her feline friend, Scooch.
She is survived by her daughters, Heather (Roger) Zwingler, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Donna (Keith) Wheeldon, Cobourg, Ont.; Bella (Ed) Hommel, Halifax; Cynthia (William) McFarland, Toronto, Ont.; sons, James (Jeanette), Antigonish and Barry (Susan), Leamington, Ont.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Cynthia was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, William; granddaughter, Charlotte; sisters, Dorthea, Elsie, Gillian, brother, Havelock.
There will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Christ Anglican Church, Queensport with Rev. Darroch Fagan officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made in Cynthia’s memory to Christ Anglican Church Cemetery Fund, Queensport.
