PELLY, William Henry "Bill" – 91, Boylston, Guysborough Co., passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born on February 8, 1921, in Sunnyville, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late William and Hattie (Clyke) Pelly. Bill worked for 35 years as a Heavy Duty Mechanic in Ontario. Serving his country during WWII, Bill saw action in England, North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. His years of service were from 1941 until his discharge in 1946. Some of the medals Bill received for his service include, 1939/45 Star, Italy Star, France/Germany Star, Defence Medal, Voluntary Service Medal and Clasp, Canadian Medal as well as the Dutch Medal. He was a proud member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 81 in Guysborough, where he served as the Sergeant-at-Arms. November 11th meant a great deal to Bill, as he frequently asked if it was the 11th in the days leading to his passing. He enjoyed fiddle music, but had a fondness for wartime songs. Bill was especially great at selling tickets for the hospital. He was a member of the Young at Heart Seniors, Guysborough, Guysborough Older Adult Games, as well as a member of Guysborough Baptist Church. Bill enjoyed having a good time and liked to be the "life of the party". He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, the former Dorothy (Rice) Pelly; daughter, Dianna Kentfield, Port Credit, Ont; brothers, Stephen (Bessie) Pelley, Sunnyville; Walter, Queensport; grandchildren, William, Jennifer and Christopher; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Katherine May "Kitty"; brothers, Howard, Jerry, Norman and Gordon; sisters, Mary, Emma, Gladys, Gertrude, Elsie, Flossie and Agatha. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be 11a.m. Tuesday, November 20, from Guysborough Baptist Church, with Rev. Warren Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough. Memorial donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements for Bill are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough.
