MacLean, Laura Jean - 77, L'Ardoise. Our beloved mother Laura MacLean, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. She was born Laura Jean Hendrican on January 24, 1933, in Pictou. Her parents were Dan "Deke" and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hendrican. Laura was predeceased by brothers, Ernie (Pictou); Leo (Windsor, Ont.); Bill (Ottawa); Peter (Windsor, Ont.) and John, in infancy (Pictou); as well as sisters, Dorothy Mingo (Truro); Olive Parson (Truro); and daughter, Helen Elizabeth (L'Ardoise). She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John "Jack" MacLean and children, Sandy Joseph (Maribeth), Halifax; Danny (Charlene), St. Peters; Valerie Pottie (Nicky), L'Ardoise; Cecilia (Eric), L'Ardoise; Johnny (Charlene), Yarmouth; sisters, Marion Mingo, Truro; Patricia Wallace, Truro; brother, Thomas Anthony, Ottawa. Our beloved mother was a doting and devoted grandmother to Errin Johnson (George), Matthew, Brandon, Eoin, Jamie and great-grandchildren, Bailey and Devin Johnson. Our mother was born during the Great Depression and came from a large family of nine children. Despite growing up with little material possessions, our mother had the gift of humour and anyone who came into contact with her liked her instantly. She loved to laugh and was quick witted and saw the humour in the bleakest of situations. Our mother worked very hard to raise six children and very often did without and despite going through times of great physical pain, never complained. Her children constantly felt the warmth of her unconditional love and because of her kindness, humour and laughter; she was loved by many who were fortunate to know her. Our mother adored her grandchildren and from a very young age she tended and took loving care of them. To her grandchildren she was "Nanny" and this extended to the children of very close family friends. As a young woman our mother loved to dance and our father claims that it was through dancing that they first met. Our beloved mother has joined her daughter and our sister Helen in heaven. It is said that time heals all wounds, but none of us who were blessed to have our mother in our lives will forget her. She is in our hearts forever and shall never leave. Until the end of our days we shall miss our mother and carry memories of happiness, laughter and joy. We miss you mum, now, always and forever. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 10, at 2 p.m. in Holy Guardian Angel Roman Catholic Church, L'Ardoise with Father Mariadoss Lourdusamy officiating. Church will be open earlier for prayers and condolences. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Laura to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Unit or William B. Kingston Memorial Clinic, L'Ardoise. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peter's.
