Martin, Kaye "Katie" Robinson- 102- Whycocomagh; - Feb. 13, 1909 - Feb. 22, 2011. It is with a mixture of sorrow and thankfulness that we announce the passing of "Aunt Kaye". She was born in Whycocomagh Portage, Inverness Co., to Rod and Dollie (MacMillan) Martin. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Norman (Marjorie) Martin, John (Eva) Martin; sister, Chriss (Elwood) Campbell and their spouses. She is survived by nephews, Carl (Mary) Campbell, Iron Mines; Mac (Darlene) Martin, Edmonton; nieces Diann (Ralph) Kinney, Iron Mines; Susan (Peter) Stevens, Lr. Sackville; grand- nieces and nephews and many well loved cousins. Kaye cared for her bed-ridden mother for many years and after her passing set out for Halifax to carve out a life for herself at the age of 52. She studied to become a practical nurse and worked in that field until she retired at the age of 74. She moved back to Whycocomagh to be near family in 1988 and proceeded to bake and cook until her 101st year. Many folks were treated to her wonderful rolls, pies and biscuits and her delicious turkey dinners. She was confined to a wheel chair for the past eight years, but that did not slow down the production from her kitchen. She cooked Christmas Dinner for Christmas Day 2009 just short of her 101st birthday and was happy to have company to share it with. After her confinement to a wheel chair Aunt Kaye identified with the flightless bird the EMU and from that time on, called herself "the Old Bird". She loved life, never worried, had great faith and her glass was continually full. She spent the past seven months in the care of the great staff at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home where they helped her celebrate her 102nd birthday. Many thanks to the staff for their compassion and their ability to make Aunt Kaye laugh. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held 11a.m. Saturday in Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial in Stewartdale Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be in Kaye’s memory made to Orangedale United Church. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com Service Information Service Date Saturday, February 26, 2011
