McNamara, William Austin "Bill" – 72, Whiteside, Richmond Co. formerly of Lower Sackville, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Cleveland, he was a son of Melinda Margaret (MacDonald) McNamara, Port Hawkesbury the late Leonard Joseph McNamara.
Bill was a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish, Lower River Inhabitants; he was a past member of St. John de Vianney, Lower Sackville. He retired from the Halifax Regional School Board where he was Supervisor of Maintenance, Bill was an active member of the Kinsmen Club and he coached Minor Hockey and Baseball, played Old-timer Hockey. He enjoyed his past eight winters in Florida; he also enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Bill was a good kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 22 years, Elaine (Limpert); daughters, Nancy (Dimitri) Koutroulakis, Halifax; Jennifer (Regan) Oliver, Lucasville; son, Michael McNamara, Halifax; sisters, Alice Goodrich, California.; Paula (Tom) Chisholm, Whiteside; Gertrude (Fred) Sole, Ontario; Linda (Bob) Deveau, Port Hawkesbury; Eileen (Carl) McNamara, Whiteside; Debbie (Gary) McNamara, Halifax; Gale (Don) Cyr, Port Hawkesbury; brothers, Carl (Diane), Halifax; Roderick (Betty) , New Glasgow; Gerald (Cathy), Ontario; Dale (Joanne), Halifax; Wayne (Donna), Lower River Inhabitants; grandchildren, Joe, Ashley, Courtney, Noah and Jonah, and faithful companions, Dini and Zaza. Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Heather (McGillivary); son, Robbie; infant brother, Carl; brother-in-law, Doug Goodrich.
There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held 12 (noon), Saturday, March 3rd from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Whiteside, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Interment to take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Special thanks to Cape Breton Oncology Department and Strait Richmond Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.
