MacLEAN, William Angus "Willie" – 93, Marble Mountain, Inverness Co., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, in St. Ann’s Community Centre, Arichat. Born in West Bay Marches, he was a son of the late William and Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) MacLean. At the age of 19, he joined the Canadian Army in 1939 and took basic training in Sydney, then to various stations in New Brunswick and Ontario, ending up finally in Debert, prior to going overseas in 1940. He then joined the Cape Breton Highlanders, where they all left for the Middle East and Italy and fought north to Holland and returned to Canada for an honourable discharge in 1945. He rejoined the army in 1947 and was honourably released on May 18, 1961. He received the Italy Star Medal for his service in Italy from 1939 to 1945. Bill was also well known for his 37 years of garbage removal for Port Hawkesbury and area. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a very kind, generous and humble man, who made many friends over the years. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Christene (MacEachern); children, Donnie (Gail), Port Hawkesbury; Buddy (Darlene), Brockville Ont; Jimmy (Linda), Marble Mountain; Dougie (Joy), Wayne (Velvet), both of Fort McMurray; Steven "Beaver", Port Hawkesbury; John, Marble Mountain; Cindy (Kenny), Port Hawkesbury; Darlene (Danny), Donalda (Roy), both of Truro; sisters, Genevieve MacEachern, Ont; Marion Ryder, Halifax; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Billy; daughter, Lorraine; brothers, Alex (Josephine), Roddie (Ethel), Howard (Sally) and Donald (Lena); sister, Katie (George); brother-in-law, John A. MacEachern. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a Legion service at 6 p.m. both Friday, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Lime Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Lime Hill Cemetery. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com Visitation Information Visitation Friday, December 20, 2013 Visitation Time 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. with Legion service at 6 p.m. Visitation Location Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury Service Information Service Location There will be no funeral service.
