MacKAY, Norman Angus - 83, Whycocomagh. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Norman Angus MacKay announce his passing February 29, 2004, in Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, surrounded by his family. Born in Dunakin, Inverness Co., he was a son of the late John Dan and Mary (Buchanan) MacKay. He was a member of Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh, member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 123, and was a veteran of the Second World War. Norman enlisted in the army at an early age serving Canada with the Regina Rifles in England, France and Belgium. In Belgium he lost his leg at the Leopold Canal during heavy fighting. Norman has been very active in the legion being chief stewart for many years and serving on many committees. In addition to his legion work, he was active in the Whycocomagh-Lake Ainslie A.O.T.S. Mens Club, having been president and serving on different committees. Surviving are brothers, D.J., Inverness; Stanley, Inverness; Kenneth (Shirley), Hamilton, Ont.; Morrison (Emily), Whycocomagh; Willie, River Denys; Winston, Whycocomagh; sisters, Annie Morrison, Whycocomagh; Laura (Morrison) MacInnis, Halifax; Catherine Gillis, New Glasgow; Edna MacLeod, Sussex, N.B.; Patricia (Thomas) MacLeod, Blues Mills. He was predeceased by sister, Johanna MacDonald; brother, Earl. Norman was a special person to the family and will be dearly missed. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday in Stewart United Church, Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial in Stewartdale Cemetery. Memorial donations to Stewartdale Cemetery Fund, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice.
