MacKAY, John - 77, Inverness, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2005, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Scotsville, Inverness Co., he was a son of the late Peter C. and Tina (Dunbar) MacKay. He was a retired bricklayer, having worked in Toronto for many years. He was a member of Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh. John was a member of a large family who suffered the loss of both their parents when they were very young. As one of the older ones, he helped to care for the younger members of the family. He is survived by his wife, Violet; children, Karen and Michael; grandchildren, Zackary and Christopher; brother, Malcolm, Ottawa, Ont.; sisters, Phemie, Blues Mills; Violet, Bedford. He was predeceased by sisters, Chrissie, Margaret, and one in infancy; brothers, Lauchie and Philip. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Alexander Grant United Church, East Lake Ainslie, Rev. Adam Lees officiating. Burial in East Lake Ainslie Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to East Lake Ainslie Cemetery Fund. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
