MacKENZIE, Gerald Adelbert -82, Canso, died Sunday March 27, 2011 in Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Dell and Cora (Feltmate) MacKenzie. Gerald started fishing at the young age of 12 and fished until he became an iron worker in 1969. He retired from the iron workers in 1985 and then returned to fishing.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Dave) Le Blanc, McGregor, ON.; Judy Smith, Newfoundland; sons, James "Jimmy" (Pauline), McGregor, ON.; Phillip (Paula), Little Dover; Gerry "Cook" (Michelle), Canso; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyliss, Burlington, ON.; Blanche, Vancouver, B.C.; brothers, Ernie, Amherst; Clyde, Durells Island; many nieces and nephews. Gerald will be sadly missed by all, especially his dog "Dolly". He was predeceased by his loving wife, Roberta "Rosebud" (Noble) MacKenzie; sister, Rene; brothers, Alden, Ed, Bill and Hughie.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 in St. Paul United Church, Canso, with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial in Fourth Hill Cemetery.
