SNOOK, Michael Joseph – 78, Port Hawkesbury, we the family, wish to announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, on Sunday April 17, 2011 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy and courageous battle with COPD. Mike was the son of the late Henry and Mary (Patterson) Snook. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 49 years Jean (Wilson) Snook; daughters, Jennifer, Antigonish, Rosemary (John Power), Port Hawkesbury; sons, Raymond , Port Hawkesbury; Gordie (Diane), Port Hawkesbury; his precious grandchildren Nicholas Fox (his special card buddy), Alex Rose and Cody Van de Sande, Clint, Blake, and Reice Snook, sister, Anna Mae (John Delaney),Halifax, along with many nieces and nephews; sister in law June Snook; and special people, Darlene MacNeil, Port Hawkesbury, and Kathy Wilson, Seaforth. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by sisters, Tina, Rita; brother, Lawrence, along with son- in- law Dave Van de Sande, mother and father- in -Law, Rose and Jim Wilson. Dad’s profession was a love of driving and he started in Antigonish at a young age where he went from Odgies Taxi to Wick MacIsaac’s Trucking, then on to Wells Transfer in Sydney in 1962 where he met Jean. They moved to Port Hawkesbury in 1964, where Mike worked for Seaboard for 15 years, and then the Department of Transportation as Road Transport Inspector for 17 years and then on to operating the tow truck for Canso Ford until his retirement. Dad spent endless hours at the old Port Hawkesbury Arena, supporting his children (hockey and figure skating), coaching minor hockey, ringette, and officiating. He loved the bus for the Junior. B Strait Pirates and the Strait Pirate Oldtimers. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9p.m. Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be 10 am Thursday in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Palliative Care Society of Antigonish Town and County, Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care or Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
