Parker, Daniel J., Age 75, Canso - It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Daniel Parker, on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at home in Canso. Danny served in the Royal Canadian Navy (1959-1967) and spent many years as Lt. (N) with CIC in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Over the years Danny was active in community organizations, being a member of the Canso Lions Club and a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 46, Canso. Danny was also a member of the Star of the Sea Church in Canso. Danny is survived by son, Daniel Parker Jr.; brothers; Pat (Shirley) Parker, Canso; Sylvester (Rose) Parker, Canso and Dennis (Fern) Parker, Antigonish; sisters, Marion (Fred) Snow, Connecticut; Lorraine Walker, Antigonish and Agatha (Joe) Boudreau, Dartmouth; as well as many nieces and nephews. Danny was predeceased by his long time partner, Carmel Chase, parents, Vincent and Sadie (O'Hearn) Parker and brother, Jimmy Parker. Danny will be greatly missed by all his friends and family, particularly his card partner, brother, Pat and best friend, Ernie Parker. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Members of Royal Canadian Legion Br. 46 are asked to meet at the funeral home for a legion service for their late commerade at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, Thursday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m., Father Dan MacDonald officiating. A luncheon will follow the at the Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
