Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that the family of Frank Alonzo Kelly announces his sudden passing at his winter home in Palmetto, Fla., on Sunday, February 4, 2007. Frank, who was 69, was born on October 14, 1937, to the late Alonzo "Lon" and Agnes Kelly (Mulgrave). In his youth, Frank excelled at many sports including hockey, football and most notably, baseball, capturing the Nova Scotia Maritime Midget Baseball Championship. He started his business career with the Canadian Government working in the early 1960s on the Colombo Project in India and Pakistan. A few years later, Frank returned to Canada to Sept Iles, Que., where he owned and operated several businesses during the boom years of iron ore production in the 1970s and 80s. He semi-retired to his beloved Martin's River on Nova Scotia's south shore where his entrepreneurial spirit launched another import/export business with his companion, Isabelle. This took them to various cities and towns throughout the Maritimes and the United States, meeting and making many new friends and acquaintances along the way. Always a story to be told, Frank loved people. His accounts of both past and present adventures were always interesting, always entertaining, and of course humorous. He was an avid reader and could effortlessly compose comic verse that brought a smile to all. Singing was another of Frank's passions. At singsongs around the family piano, he loved to sing the old ballads and songs of long ago. He truly exuded the proverbial Irish kindness and charm. We will miss him so very dearly. Frank is survived by his companion of many years, Isabelle; his son, Pierre (Sonia), Montreal; grandchildren, Ariana and Matthew, Montreal; brothers, Dennis (Theresa), Havre Boucher and Jim (Gina), Fort McMurray, Alta. He is also survived by sisters, Ruth Buckley, Kingston, Ont.; and Evelyn (Tony) Dambrauskas, Victoria, B.C.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Agnes and Lon; brother, John; sister, Helen. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service to be held in Mulgrave and announced at a later date.
