KERSTEN, Johanna Theodora Maria "Annie" 86, Princeville, Inverness County, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2016, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, surrounded by her family. Born in Holland, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelmus and Maria (Overkamp) Zieverink. Annie and her late husband Henry immigrated to Canada from Holland in April 1952. She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother and proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family above all else and enjoyed cooking and baking for them. Annie loved company and always had the kettle ready and teapot on should anyone stop by. She was a passionate gardener and took great pride in her flower beds and vegetable gardens. Annie was very soft spoken but had a tremendous work ethic and could be found doing chores around the farm. She loved life on the farm. Annie had an unwavering faith and was a member of St. Margaret’s Parish, West Bay Road. She is survived by her eight children, daughters, Maria (Dave) Middleton, Ontario; Betsy (Ray) Baker, New Brunswick; Bernadette (Phonse) vanRossum, Antigonish; sons, John (Nora), Princeville; Willy (Tammy), Kingsville; Vince (Lauree); Clem (Jane), both of Ontario; and Stephen (Bonnie), Halifax; two sisters, Regien (Hank) Oldenkotte and Truus Pierik and three brothers, Jan, Wim, Gerard Zieverink, all of Holland; 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry (1993) and sister, Dora Frielink. Visitation will be Thursday May 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St. Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. from St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, West Bay Road, with Father Callistus Abazie officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Margaret’s Parish Cemetery Fund, Parkinson’s Society Maritime Branch or a charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to thank the nurses at Strait Richmond Hospital for the care and compassion they provided to Annie.
