It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Roderick Gordon Jones, age 84, of Whycocomagh, that occurred at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 4, 2015, with his family by his side. Born in Harrington Harbour, Quebec, Roderick was the son of the late Frederick and Clara Lillian (Court) Jones.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years, Doreen Bobbitt; children, Barbara (James Cummings), Michael (Jennifer Bean), Gregory and Crystal. He was a proud grandfather of Jocelyn, Gregory, Gary, Kelly, Michelle, Ryan, Joshua and Liam Roderick, and great grandfather of Allison, Dylan, Ella, Jackson and Haven. He is also survived by his sister, Norma Gallichon, and his brother, James (Shirley). Roderick was predeceased by his sons, Gordon and Randall.
Roderick worked as Maintenance Supervisor with the Commission Scolaire du Littoral for many years until he retired to Whycocomagh. Roderick was a renowned builder of wooden boats, a very talented wood carver, he loved gardening, hunting, fishing, reading and was a wonderful story teller and historian. Roderick was a proud member of the Sircom Lodge # 66 Whycocomagh.
Visitation will be held at the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh, on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service and burial of ashes will take place at St. Phillips Anglican Church, Kegaska, Quebec at a later date.
