MacKay, (Lewis) Cora Beatrice, It is with heavy hearts and most loving memories, we regret to announce the sudden passing of our mom, Beatrice, age 79, on Saturday, October 13, 2012. Wife of the late Alfred Palmer MacKay, daughter of Eva MacPhail, the late Charlie Lewis and stepdaughter of Jessie Lewis. In 1957 Beatrice married Alfred, moved to Big Harbour Island, where they raised their family. Beatrice was well known for her outgoing personality, her community spirit and involvement. No matter what was going on Beatrice was there to lend a hand or just to support whatever the cause. She liked nothing better than a good game of cards, cribbage, scrabble, darts, along with a good cup of tea and some great conversation with her family, friends and constant companion Bella. She loved her gardening, watching humming birds, daily walks. Beatrice had many friends far and wide. Her door was open to all. She was known as "The Gem of Big Harbour Island- Bea on the Hill" Beatrice was survived by best friend and companion Russell White, her sons, Gordon (Michelle), Big Harbour Island; Ross (Ann), Big Harbour Island; Roy (Nadia) Aurora, Ontario; and daughter, Judy MacLennan, Melford; daughter- in- law Evelyn, Halifax; stepchildren, Audrey Fraser, Aberdeen; Kathleen MacKay Whidden, Truro; grandchildren, Garrette, Nicole, Kim, Crystal , Terra , Isaac, Stacy, Jermaine, Chad , Shalyse, Adam, Robert, Diane, Joyce , Ruby, Kerry, Jesslyn, Brad, Ivor, Elise, Anneliese , Patricia ,Melissa, John Robert and Jennifer. She was also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Beatrice was predeceased by son, Arnold Mackay; stepson, David Mackay; her favorite son- in- law, Andrew MacLennan; sister, Annie MacFadyen; brothers, Charlie Lewis, Donald MacGregor and grandson, Yuri Ronish. Beatrice was a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church and North Mountain Cultural and Recreation Association. She had also been involved with numerous other organizations. Thanks to the staff at CCU Halifax Infirmary and Victoria County Memorial, Baddeck. In lieu of flowers. Visitation will be from 6-9p.m. today, October 16 and 2-9p.m. Wednesday in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 11a.m. Friday from River Denys Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Malagawatch Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, or to the I.W.K Children’s Hospital, Halifax. Reception following service at Valley Mills Volunteer Fire Department.
