MacKINNON, Herman Alexander – 69, Whycocomagh Mountain Road, Inverness Co., went home to the Lord on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Whycocomagh Mountain, he was a son of the late Charles and Hannah Gertrude (Harvey) MacKinnon. Herman worked lumbering for many years and worked for the Silver Culture and retired from the Dept. of Highway (Ashfield), but continued to work as caretaker of Stewartdale cemetery in which he took great pride. Herman will be missed for his kind and caring ways. Herman is survived by his friend and companion, Nancy; also sisters, Louise (Stephen) Durling, Shubenacadie; Lorna (Douglas) Miller; Florence (Ralph) MacLean, both of Orangedale; brother, Charles, Port Hawkesbury; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Gordon and Howard. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh, from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Stewartdale cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Stewartdale cemetery.
