We regret to announce the death of Peter William Wilmot, Age 70, of We'koqma'q First Nation. He died peacefully in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. He worked for over 30 years at Vi's Restaurant now owned by Robert and Bea MacLeod and in Maine at a wooling mill, and as a janitor at the We'koqma'q Band and Health Centre. He was also employed in Halifax, Truro, Sydney and where ever the wind carried him. He was active in the community as a tea biscuit maker, cook & baker for salites, weddings, or other events. He was always there when you needed him and he enjoyed helping. He loved walking, visiting, travelling and meeting new people and making friends. He was well known for his sense of humor. Over the years, He took many trips and he travelled to a Pilgrimage in Medjugorje, several trips to visit his nephew, Dennis Gould and his family in the U.S., and to visit his friends in NFLD. He was a member of the Saint Kateri Holy Trinity Parish We'koqma'q. A Special Thanks to his Doctors’ John Ritter, Carlyle Chow and Roland Genge and the staff of the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, homecare of We'koqma'q, Special thank you to Mary Pauline, Darla, Nurses Debbie & Shannon, Caregivers Wanda, Doreen, Keith, Dean, Shayne and Derek. Also thank you to the We’koqma’q Prayer Group, Ma’kit Poulette for her prayers and support. He was survived by his daughter, Angela Wilmot (Gordon); sisters, Pearl, Wanda, Beverly and Elizabeth all from We'koqma'q. His godchildren, Natalie Googoo, Jarrett Gould, Shayne Augustine, Kehisha Wilmot, Marissa Fee, Kaeden Bernard, Nicole Martin and Erin Isadore, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by parents, Michael and Martha Wilmot (Birth Mother: Alice Wilmot-Francis), sister, Janet Gould, brother, Noel J. Bernard. Visitation will take place Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the We’koqma’q Multi-purpose Building, 160 Reservation Rd, We’koqma’q, starting at 4 p.m. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, in Saint Kateri Holy Trinity Parish, We’koqma’q, with Father Paul Abbass officiating. Salite to follow at the We'koqma'q Mi'kmaw School Gym. Burial to take place at a later date in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Millbrook First Nation, Truro. Donations can be made to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
