MacKENZIE, Wallace Robert -87, Canso, passed away peacefully in Canso Seaside Manor on Sunday, October 5, 2014, with his family by his side. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Leigh Johnson. Wally lived and worked most of his life in Canso. He was a dedicated employer of the various owners of the Canso fish processing plants. Dad will be remembered for his kindness and friendliness to all he encountered. Dad was predeceased his wife, Laura; son, Timothy; grandson, Dennis; daughter-in-law, Carol Ann. Also predeceased by mother-in-law, Annie Davie; brother-in-law, Bill Davie; step brothers, Jake and Willard Johnson. Dad is survived by children, Gail (Wayne) Ashford, George’s River; Stephen, Rodney (Priscilla), both of Little Dover; Michael (Dianne), Nancy (Gary) MacDonald, both of Canso; Stan (Carla), Petty Harbour, NL; Christine (Todd) Ross, New Glasgow. He was dearly loved by his grandchildren, Geoff, Andrew, Dougie, Warren, Kerry, Trina, Cory, Melissa, Greg, Adam, Joey, Matthew, Amy, Danielle, Emily and Chloe. Dad will also be missed by his 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mamie Wood and Joan Wilson. We are grateful to the staff of Canso Seaside Manor, for their compassionate and professional care that was so graciously provided over the past 2 years. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Canso Seaside Manor, or Star of the Sea Parish or a charity of one’s choice.
