MCCARTHY, Teresa G. – 90, Halifax, formerly of Lower River Inhabitants, Richmond Co. It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Teresa McCarthy, at Northwood Manor, Halifax, on Monday, February 13, 2012.Teresa was a former resident of Lower River Inhabitants and although she left the area seventy years ago, home was always in Lower River. Teresa was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Anne (Tompkins) McCarthy. She was predeceased by brothers, Pat, Maurice and Vincent; sisters, Jessie Proctor, Annie Proctor and Sister Mary McCarthy and nephew, Kenny Paul MacNeil. She is survived by her sister, Eileen MacNeil, Lower River Inhabitants; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.Teresa was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and was actively involved in the CWL for many years. She began her working career at Robertson’s Lumber and retired after 25 years of service with the Federal Goverment. Teresa had an overwhelming passion for life and shared this unselfishly with her wide network of friends and family. She enjoyed a good laugh, dancing, bowling, travelling, playing cards and the "occasional" trip to the Casino. She firmly believed we must not only give what we have, we must give what we are. Perhaps Teresa’s most defining characteristics were her generosity, charity and unwavering Faith. Teresa would never miss an opportunity of making some small sacrifice, a smiling look, a kindly word, always doing the smallest right thing and doing it all for love. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to special friends Gerald and Yvonne Sweet, personal care givers, staff of Northwood Manor, a special thank you to Dr. Karen Anderson for her extraordinary care, Father Cooper and her many friends for the phone calls of concern and visits. This meant so much to Teresa.Upon Teresa’s request, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 16, at 10 a.m. from St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River, with celebrant of the mass Father Barrett Clare-Johnson. A memorial service in celebration of Teresa’s life will be held at Northwood Manor on Saturday, February 18, at 10:15 a.m. Memorial donations may be made in Teresa’s memory to St. Francis de Sales Church, Lower River Inhabitants, or a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements for Teresa are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
Teresa travelled the simple path of her journey through life and will be forever remembered with these words of reflection:
"The fruit of Silence is Prayer
The fruit of Prayer is Faith
The Fruit of Faith is Love
The fruit of Love is Service
The fruit of Service is Peace"
