PECKHAM, Edward Simon "Ned" – 88, of Lexington, Inverness Co. and formerly of Creignish, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. He was surrounded by the three most important women in his life, his daughters Judy and Melissa and his daughter at heart Paulette. Born in Pictou Co. he was a son of the late Gordon and Christine (Clyburn) Peckham. Ned spent most of his married years with his wife Florence (MacDonald) in Creignish. Before marriage he saw active duty with the British Army and then the Royal Edmonton Light Infantry. After being wounded in Italy in 1944, he was honourably discharged. He would later work as a school bus driver and for the Dept. of Highways as a snow plow operator. Throughout his years he enjoyed playing softball with the Port Hastings men’s team, Horseshoe Tournaments during the Festival of the Strait and many years on the course in Dundee. In the last years of his life, his greatest pleasure was visits from his family living near and far and the weekly calls from his son Danny. Surviving are daughters, Judy (Barrie) Sandham, Judique; Mellisa (Marc) Peckham-Lenes, Bedford N.Y, USA; son, Danny (Judy), Brampton Ont; grandchildren, Ewen and Flora Sandham, Selena and Todd Richard, Bruce and Katie Lenes, Dylan MacKinnon, Brandon Peckham and Travis MacDonald; as well as 3 great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence (MacDonald) Peckham; daughter, Connie Fraser. There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 25, at 11a.m. from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Creignish, with Father Hughie D. MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. Following the Funeral Mass a lunch will take place in the Creignish Recreation Centre. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
