Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Smith, Jean Annabell (Adams) – 89, Hillsborough, Inverness Co. It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jean A. Smith on Friday May 25, 2012, which occurred at home.
Born on October 30, 1922 in Hillsborough, she was a daughter of the late John and Hattie (Murray) Adams. Jean was a teacher who taught in one room school houses across the province to later retire to raise her two children. She was an active volunteer in her community, earning her volunteer of the year in the late 1990’s. Her passion for baking won her many prizes, especially her secret pie recipes. Jean’s love for sewing, crafts, baking, gardening and helping others will be carried on by her daughter, granddaughters and her great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church in Port Hood and Mabou/Hillsborough United Church, Hillsborough, where she taught Sunday school for years. Jean generously donated to various organizations from ICMH Foundation, to local children’s sports teams and many more. Jean was respected by all as a kind and caring friend who always worried about everyone else and always willing to help anyone in need.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Wayne Smith; daughter, Linda (Jimmy) MacDonald; granddaughter, Barbara Jean (Quinn) MacDonald, their children, Cally Reese, Kacey Anna and Hunter Quinn, granddaughter, Cynthia Smith, her children, Neilah Dawn and Autumn Dani; granddaughter, Tabitha MacDonald, her child, Kendra Allie; granddaughter, Amber MacDonald, her child, Brayden John Hugh. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Lloyd Smith.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. in the Mabou/Hillsborough United Church, from where funeral service will be held 2p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Margie Plant officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Hillsborough. Memorial donations may be made to the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital Foundation, or to the Central Inverness Palliative Care Society. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
