Matheson, Walter - 82, Little Narrows, Victoria County, Cape Breton. Passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Walter was born in Jubilee, NS on May 11, 1931 to the late Charlie and Mary Jane (Smith) Matheson. He lived his whole life in Little Narrows and worked for the Little Narrows Gypsum Company for over 40 years, retiring as Sr. Quarry Foreman. Walter was totally devoted to Eileen, his wife of 62 years and his family. He was also devoted to his church, being a long time member and elder of the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners’. Walter had a keen interest in religion, politics, history, woodworking, and especially sports. He was an avid hockey player and golfer in his younger years. Walter was also known for dry wit and unique sense of humour. Besides his wife, "Eileen" Lena (MacLennan), Walter is survived by children, Wayne (Loretta Manning), Cathy (Robert Chisholm), Dianne Connick, Carol (Bruce Dalrymple) and Charlie (Debbie); grandchildren Melissa and David Connick, Ainsley and Kyle Chisholm, Bevan Woodacre, Connor Matheson, Jason and Morgan Dalrymple and Lindsay Taylor; great–grandchildren, Vanya and William Spurrell, Beckett and Stella Woodacre. Also leaving to mourn brothers, Mac (Eleanor), Sidney (Gayle), Carleton; sisters, Jessie (Murdock) MacLean, Rose and Janie. He was predeceased by siblings, Maymie, Angus, Ernest, Johnnie, Charles "Junie". Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, January 9, at 1:00 pm in the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In keeping with Walter's wishes, there will be no visitation prior to the funeral service. Family flowers only please. All are welcome to visit at the family home following the service. Memorial donations may be made to the NS Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Little Narrows Community Centre, or the charity of your choice.
