Matthews, Mae Elizabeth -- 73, Antigonish formerly of River Denys, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday April 9, 2013, surrounded by her caring family. Born on June 20, 1939 in River Denys, Mae was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Isabell MacArthur.
Mae was a homemaker as well as a paper carrier for the Chronicle Herald for 30 years. She was adherent of Forbes United Church in River Denys, as well as the UCW. Mae enjoyed playing bingo with the girls and a good game of cards.
Survived By her daughters, Cathy (Wally Beaton) Matthews, Antigonish; Donna (Duncan) MacLennan, River Denys; Susan (Gary McKenna) Matthews, Antigonish and son, Artie (Joanie) Matthews, West Bay Rd.; brother, Donald MacArthur, Mass.; sisters, Katherine (Ross) MacLeod, Florida; Ann (Charlie) MacKinnon, Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Angela (Noel) Cox, Truro; Derek MacLennan, Truro; Brian (Crystal) Matthews, Enfield; Tonia (Andy) LeBlanc, Lake Echo; Kyle Matthews, Antigonish; Amanda MacLennan, Antigonish; great-grandchildren Kayla Matthews , Twin Boys Matthew and Ben LeBlanc; as well as a large extended family. Predeceased by her Husband of 48 years, William (Billy) Matthews, and infant Son.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11, from 2:00-9:00pm in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 12 at 11:00 am in Forbes United Church, River Denys with Karen Ross officiating. Burial in Upper River Denys Cemetery. Family Flowers only please; in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Forbes United Church, River Denys, Upper River Denys Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
