Monahan, Dorothy M. – 94, Port Hawkesbury, formerly of Arichat, died Monday, August 5, 2013, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in England, she was the daughter of the late William and Isabella Florence (Frazer) Hodgson. She came to Canada in 1955 when her husband, Jim, joined the RCN. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the Royal Canadian Legion in Port Hawkesbury.
She is survived by sons, John, Derbyshire, England; David, Durham, New Hampshire; daughter, Carol (Mrs. Edmund Cormier), Northbridge, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, and sister, Mildred.
Cremation has taken place. There are no calling hours. There will be a Memorial service on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10 am at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Port Hawkesbury with Rev. Evelyn Knorr officiating, followed by a committal service at St. John's Anglican Church, Arichat at 1:00 pm. Arrangements entrusted to Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Condolences may be made at www.haverstocks.com. Memorial donations may be made to the Strait Richmond Health Care Foundation.
A very special thanks to her friends, Mary MacNeil, Linda Samson and to the nurses and staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital for their compassionate and wonderful care during her illness.
