SHAW, John Alfred -70, West Bay Centre, Inverness Co., passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 13, 2014 with his loving family by his side. John was born in Inverness September 20, 1943 to the late John Dan and Elizabeth (Clarke) Shaw. John lived all his life in West Bay Centre. He was an avid pulp cutter, self employed as a pulp contractor for fourty two years. John enjoyed getting his hardwood, hunting, gardening, family gatherings and his daily visits from his brother Alexander who would stop by to chat. He got great satisfaction helping others. John is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Gladys (Smith) Shaw; daughters, Lorraine Shaw, Jacqueline (Darrell) De young, both of West Bay Centre; Jeannette (Sheldon) MacDonald, Cleveland; the Apple of his eye were his grandchildren, Johnathan (Aucoin), Fort McMurray, AB; Nathan MacLellan, Ont.; Liam MacDonald, Cleveland; Kaitlyn De young, West Bay Centre; brother, Alexander (Florence); sister, Christene (Allan) MacKay and many nieces and nephews. He always enjoyed the company of his in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Miriam MacRae. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral Service will be 11a.m. Thursday in West Bay United Church, with Rev. Rick Bowley officiating. Burial in West Bay Centre Cemetery at a later date. There will be no fellowship following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.
