SMITH, John Hugh "Doey" – 64, Canso. Doey died on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Birches Nursing Home, Musquodoboit Harbour. Born and raised in Canso, he was the son of the late James and Flora (Richardson) Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Michael) King and son, Christopher (Paige Muise) Smith all of Eastern Passage; grandsons, Colbi and Jacob King. He is also survived by brothers, James (Linda) and Cecil (Theresa) all of Canso; Stanley, Truro; Norman (Pam), Bedford; loving sister, Lynn (Michael) Childs, Hazel Hill. He was predeceased by his loving and caring friend James Bond; brothers, Carl, Lawrence, Clarence and sister, Winifred O'Leary. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. A reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Canso. Donations in memory of Doey may be made to the charity of one's choice.
