SMITH (Nickerson), Juanita Mary "Wanie" – Age 65, Canso. It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Juanita on Saturday, June 1, 2019, with her family by her side. Born in Canso she was a daughter of Mona Gordon (Manuel) and the late Donald Elmer Nickerson. She later moved to Dartmouth at a young age and then moved back to Canso with her family and met the love of her life Clarence Smith when she was 14 and they married when she was 17 and they were happily married for 39 years. Juanita’s purpose in life seemed to be her family, where she showed endless love to her children, grandchildren and her great-granddaughter, Breagh where she got the name "GG" that she was so proud of. After the passing of her late husband, Clarence, she met a kind, gentle and loving man, Clayton Haines. With Wanies big smile, brown eyes and huge heart, she welcomed his family, Cindy, Gerry and their kids with hers to make one! She enjoyed long drives, camping with family, bingo and a good kitchen party. Wanie spent every moment with family and lived life to the fullest. Besides her mother, she is survived by her partner, Clayton Haines; daughters, Tracy (Gerard) King, Canso; Sonya (Stephen) Foster, Dartmouth; Rachel Smith (Micheline Saulnier), New Brunswick; grandchildren, Dylan (Kimberly McDonald), Morganne, Madison and Bailee; great-granddaughter, Breagh; brothers, Ernie, Jimmy, Joey; sisters, Linda, Sonya and Theresa. Special thank you to Pam Smith, Bonnie Richards and Donna Nickerson. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; sister, Donna Atkins. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. on Thursday from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
