HORNE, Richard Harold "Rick" – 65, Canso, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, August 24, 2012. Born in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso, he was a son of the late Peter and Lena (Daley) Horne. In his younger years he was employed with the DOT, and worked as an inshore fisherman until his death. Rick was a member of the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in Canso and a member of the Guysborough County Inshore Fishermen’s Association. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Joan (Newell); son, Stephen, Oshawa, Ont.; brother, Peter (Sherry), Warkworth, Ont.; sisters, Bernadette (William) Bowskill, Milton, Ont.; Lois (Terry) Dobson, Sooke, BC; sister-in-law, Donna Horne and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased his parents; brothers, Francis and James; sister, Celesta Bremner; and niece, Lisa Bowskill. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Cremation to follow with interment in the parish cemetery at a later date. Donations in Rick’s memory may be made to Star of the Sea Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
