HAINES, John William, - 92, Little Dover, Guysborough Co., passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012, in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso.
Born in Little Dover on April 21, 1920, he was a son of the late Peter and Julie (Fougere) Haines. John was an avid fisherman from the age of 12, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish, Little Dover. He was the last surviving member of his immediately family. Surviving are daughters, Lillian (Donald) Armsworthy, Canso; Ruth (Jerome) Keefe and Judy Rossong (Richard Fanning) both of Little Dover; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Mona (Casey) Haines; daughter infancy, Mary Theresa; granddaughter, Wendy Rossong; son-in-law, Gerald Rossong; sisters, Alvina (Raymond) Mason; Blanch (Harry) Casey; brothers, James (Violet) Haines ; David (Alvina) and Walter Haines.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 7 from 2-9 pm, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 8 from St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Little Dover, with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Red Cross. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
