Please share a memory of Colin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HAYES, Colin "Collie" – 76, Port Hawkesbury, formerly of Point Tupper. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colin "Collie" Hayes, on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Collie was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Born in Point Tupper, was a son of the late Daniel and Alice (LeLacheur) Hayes. Collie’s greatest love was his two sons, Colin David and Michael and was so proud of his grandchildren, Nathan, Meghan, Ryan and little Jacob.
He worked and retired from Stora after 25 years. Collie enjoyed step dancing that was so much a part of his heritage. One of his greatest past times was going to the card plays. When he was home you could find him watching his TV enjoying many sports or sitting next door visiting with special friends, Joseph and Jane.
Collie is survived by his two sons, Colin David (Kelly), Port Hawkesbury; Michael (Lisa), Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Nathan, Meghan, Ryan and Jacob; many nieces and nephews, but special to his heart were, Colleen "Allie", Loretta and very special niece "little Alice" (Danny) MacIntosh; brothers-in-law, John McLeod, Clyde Malcolm, Jim King, John David and Reg Keefe; sisters-in-law, Helen, Geraldine, Brenda, Linda, Colleen and Carleen. He was predeceased by his wife, Loretta (Keefe); in-laws, Arthur and Mary "Mae" Keefe, sisters, Eileen Malcolm, Lilly Matheson, Mary Alice Ryan and Ruby Dixon; brothers, John, Mike, Harold, Earl and Danny; sisters-in-law, Erleen Keefe and Bernadette Smith; brother-in-law, George Smith.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-9 p.m. with vigil service at 2 p.m. both in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please.
