HORNE, James Charles "Charlie" – Canso, 1935- 2013, passed away at home on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Born in Little Dover, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Sampson) Horne. He worked with the Canadian Coast Guard. He was the last of the Lighthouse Keepers on Liscomb Island until its shutdown in the eighties. He finished his career with the Coast Guard Ships the John A. MacDonald and then The Louis S. St-Laurent. Charlie enjoyed life and loved his family unconditionally. He took it upon himself to look after everyone before himself. He lived simply without large luxuries. If he saw a need he met it. Even if you told him it wasn’t necessary. He gave of himself first. He never asked for anything in return. He enjoyed the company of family and had been known to like to dance across a dance-floor. I’m sure there are only few that have not known his generosity and giving nature. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Anna May Izzard (Ralph) and Leona Myers (Kingston); brothers, Joseph (Margaret), Ernest (Marie), Clarence (Catherine), Lester (Alma). He was also predeceased by his first and second wives, Shirley E Armsworthy and Ruby Elizabeth Swaine. He is survived by his three daughters, Anne Marie Casey (Richard), Dorothy "Tina" Pinkham (Conwell), Nancy Horne; son, Arnold (Heather); eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday from the Canso United Baptist Church, with Rev. David Wheeler officiating. Burial of ashes will follow in Forth Hill Cemetery, Canso. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
