Hanhams, Capt. Frederick Joseph "Fred" - 65, Canso, Guysborough Co, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2014 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso, with his wife, children and family by his side. Born in Corbin, NFLD, he was a son of the late Cecil and Annie (Dominix) Hanhams. Fred was a perfectionist in everything he did. He had a passion for the sea, and was a sea captain for many years. Fred was also a retired business man. He loved doing woodwork, reading his books, and his main passion was his guitar, singing, and the love of his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Jean (Kavanagh); son, Michael ( Amanda), Canso N.S; son, David (Michelle), Canso N.S; daughter, Angela (Jerome), Montague P.E.I; mother-in-law, Margaret Kavanagh, Guysborough N.S; 6 grandchildren, Kelsey, Erica, Brandan, Dalton, Dylan and Brooklyn. Also survived by sister, Susan, Grand Falls, NFLD; brothers, Gordon, St. Jacques, NFLD; Cecil (Susan),, Grand Falls, NFLD; Randy, St.John’s, NFLD; Willoughby (Dorothy), Grand Falls, NFLD; Jacob (Jane), Cap-pele, N.B. and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by father, (Cecil) and mother (Annie), sister, (Marion), brother, (Sidney), brothers–in–law, Gerald Baker, Ernest John Savoury, Joseph Kavanagh and Michael Kavanagh. Also nephews, James Savoury and Reginald Savoury, and nieces, Rachel Savoury and Jennifer Savoury. Visitation will be from 2 to 4pm and from 7 to 9 pm Sunday April 20th, 2014 in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home in Canso. Funeral mass will be in the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, on Monday April 21st, 2014 at 11:00 am , with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery .
