HORTON, Lloyd Edward "Sonny"- Age 87 years, of Canso. Was surrounded by loving family members as he passed into spirit on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Lloyd, known as "Sonny" to friends and family, was born in Halifax to the late Lloyd and Alverta (Burns) Horton on April 30, 1930 and grew up in Canso. Sonny is survived by his wife of 59 years, Connie (née Harris), Canso; son, Todd, North Bay, ON; sisters, Mrs. John DeRabbie (Hazel) of Bancroft, ON; Mrs. Ross Haverstock (Ruby) of Hammonds Plains; Mrs. Richard Wasalasko (Joyce) of Spruce Grove, AB, Mrs. Peter Keeble (Marilyn) of Bedford; cousin, Mrs. Francis Lyons (Muriel Swaine) of Belleville, ON and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. Sonny was pre-deceased by his parents and younger brother, Arthur Horton. Sonny worked as a mechanic for 40 years in Toronto, retiring to the Maritimes in 1991. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly boating, camping, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed a good cup of tea, fresh lobster, watching baseball and hockey, and all things related to cars and trucks. A very special thank you to Dr. Barbara Bell and the wonderful palliative care nurses in Guysborough, as well as Rhonda Bennett and the medical team at Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso for their loving care and support. There will be no visitation. Funeral services for Sonny will be officiated by his dear friend, Rev. David Wheeler, in Canso United Baptist Church, Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 2 p. m. Sonny will be laid to rest at Bayview Baptist Cemetery, Half Island Cove. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Canso United Baptist Church, 1238 Union Street, Canso, NS, B0H 1H0.
