GILLIS, Jessie Catherine – Aberdeen, Inverness Co., it is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished wife, mother and grandmother Jessie, who passed away Thursday November 4, 2010 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born April 18, 1935 in Blues Mills, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Sadie Beeson. Jessie completed her High School education in Port Hood and went on to teach school in Skye Glen before marrying her husband Gerald with whom she celebrated 55 years together this past July. She was well known in her community for her numerous volunteer committee activities, her love of the church and for her devotion to her family and friends. Jessie was a very talented seamstress and traveled around Cape Breton Island for many years teaching her craft to others. In more recent years she developed a passion for quilting and looked forward to spending Monday afternoons with her friends in the Lakeview Quilters. Jessie also enjoyed writing poetry and would share it with family and friends to mark special occasions or just in fun. She was a member of Little Narrows Presbyterian Church where she was treasurer of the Ladies Aid for over 30 years. Jessie was also a member of the Dr. Gordon Mac Leod Chapter Order of Eastern Star holding many offices since joining in 1968, including Worthy Matron.
