GRANT, GENEVIEVE DOROTHY (ENGLAND) – died January 10, 2012 at Guysborough Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Born January 21, 1941 in Antigonish, NS, Genevieve was the eldest daughter of the late Russell and Cora (Hart) England. Genevieve, Mom, was a very private person who cherished her family dearly. She was the loving wife of Edward Grant, Guysborough, and wonderful mother to her 8 D’s – Donald (Dawn), Boylston; Darlene (Morgan Biggin), Cow Bay; Darrell (Bonnie), Boylston; Debbie (Al MacGillivray), Arisaig; Dale (Brian O’Connor), Guysborough Intervale; Denise (Jimmy Halloran), Guysborough; David (Stephanie), Steep Creek; Dwayne (Wanda Dickie), Milford; and her furry son Tommy. After raising her family, Genevieve entered the workforce selling real estate then later in office administration at Granville Gates & Sons, Blandford, NS until her retirement. For the past number of years, Genevieve (Mom) became a world traveler visiting Norway, Britain, Scotland, England, Holland, Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Jordan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botzswana, China, Turkey, India, Nepal, Bangkok, Vietnam and Cambodia plus several Canadian provinces and American states. She was a member of the United Church of Canada and attended Wesley United Church and Boylston United Church, past member of Eastern Star Guysborough and Eastern Star Mulgrave, past Sunday school teacher at Middle Melford Church and Board Member for the Canadian Liver Foundation – Guysborough County and Area Chapter. Along with her husband and children, she also leaves to mourn her 16 grandchildren Robert, Shelley, Justin, Matthew, Jeremy, Amanda, Sarah, Mitchell, Katie, Christopher, Adrienne, Nicholas, Courtney, Dylan, Luke and Aidan and 3 great-grandchildren Brayden, Gavin and Emmerson all of whom she adored immensely; brothers, Arthur (Annabelle), Gary (Kathleen), John, Wally (Linda) and Greg (Carol); sisters, Verna Pauley, Shirley (Marvin) Ehler, Mary (Sandy) Ryan and Sylvia (Gerald) Breen; half-sister Hazel McRae; sisters-in-law, Sadie (Joe) Jamieson, Percena Fougere and Berniece Morris; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Shirley) and Lauchie (Celeste) Grant; aunts Lillian Green and Emily Hart; uncle-in-law Herbert Hayden; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Genevieve was predeceased by her paternal grandparents William and Mary (Grant) England, maternal grandparents, Levi and Minnie (Peart) Hart, parents-in-law James and Vera (Hayden) Grant, sister Marion Fraser, sisters-in-law, Eva and Jean England as well as several aunts and uncles. The family would like to thank the medical staff at the NS Cancer Centre especially Dr. Paula Rittenberg for her patience and gentle manner; Hospice Palliative Care, St. Martha’s Hospital; and the medical staff at Guysborough Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and compassion during Gennie’s (Mom’s) final days. There will be no visitation. Funeral service is 11 AM Saturday January 14, 2012 at Wesley United Church, Guysborough, NS with Reverend Heather Manuel officiating, burial in Boylston United Church cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Molly Appeal for Ovarian Cancer Research, Wesley United Church or Guysborough Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough.
