GILLIS, Glenford Wayne "Glen" -73, Whycocomagh, died Thursday, June 5, 2014, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Archibald and Winifred (Field) Gillis.
Glen was an adherent of Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh, a member of the Masonic Lodge for 47 years and an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 123, Whycocomagh and also a member of the NSATV Association. Glen still worked for Ideal Concrete and did long haul trucking for J.P. MacInnis Trucking, also the former AECL in Point Tupper. Along with the late L.D. MacEachern, Glen co-owned Eastern Welding and Rentals.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Almira (Waters), married 50 years this coming September 5th; son, Gregory (Kelly), Grand Anse; daughter, Stephanie (Jack) Cox, Scotsburn; grandsons, Gillis Cox and Glen Cox, both of Scotsburn; sister, Shirley (brother-in-law, Bill) Conklin, Whycocomagh; sister-in-law, Florence (Frank) MacDonald; brother-in-law, Melvin (Theresa) Waters; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Gordon Gillis (Glendale). Special thanks to Dr. Carlyle Chow, Baddeck and staff of the QEII Hospital in Halifax for the wonderful care they provided.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday from Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh with Rev. Chris Matheson officiating. Private family burial at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Hemochromatosis Society or to Sircom Lodge #66, Whycocomagh.
