GILLIS, Murdock Archibald "Muckie" – 84, Whycocomagh, formerly of Skye Glen, Inverness Co. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Muckie Gillis on Monday, November 24, 2014, in the Inverary Manor, Inverness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Skye Glen on June 3, 1930, to the late Angus J. and Mary Margaret (Campbell) Gillis. Although Muckie moved to Whycocomagh, his heart never left "The Glen". Muckie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Anna (Beeson); sons, Kevin (Sandra); Darrell (Irene); Craig (Terry); Barry (Chrissie) daughters, Cheryl; Jesslyn (Michael Keeling); Marion (Lorne MacMillan). He is also survived by his sister, Marion Clarke, Toronto. He was predeceased by his brothers, Freddie, Lauchie, John M.; sisters, Irene, Tena and Annie Mae. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Tamzin, Meghan, Devon, Jason, Adam, Jordan, Kinnon, Annie, Riley; great-granddaughter, Adelaide; special cousin, Ernie MacInnis; along with several nieces and nephews. In his early years, Muckie worked as a lumberman, farmer and truck driver, then spent the majority of his life as an operator for the Department of Highways until his retirement in 1986. Following his retirement, Muckie and Anna spent over 20 enjoyable winters in Florida. There was never any arguing with Muckie, it was always the Leafs, the Tories and the Blue Jays. He also enjoyed Scottish music, card games, gardening, the horse races, a good joke and gatherings with family and friends. Muckie volunteered for several organizations including, The Whycocomagh Co-op and the Stewartdale Cemetery. He was also a member of the Stewart United Church and a Charter Member of the A.OT.S. Men’s Brotherhood. The family would loike to thank the staff of both Miners Memorial Manor (Sydney Mines) and Inverary Manor (Inverness) for their dedicated care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Stewart United Church or a charity of choice. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday from Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh with Rev. Alison Etter officiating. Burial in Stewartdale Cemetery. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com "You will forever be in our hearts, Muckie, Dad, Pops and Poppa!"
