Gillis, Harry Clayton - Age 93 of Orangedale, Inverness Co. It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Harry Clayton Gillis, 93 of Orangedale on Friday, April 29, 2016.
Born in Skye Glen on November 19, 1922, he was a son of the late James and Pearl (Jones) Gillis. Harry is the last surviving member if his immediate family. He retired from Little Narrows Gypsum Company in 1987. He was a member and Steward of Orangedale United Church. Harry was known for his love of fiddle music and in his younger day’s loved going to square dances.
He is survived by his sons, Wilfred (Connie), Burlington, Ont.; James, Orangedale; Winston, Halifax; daughters, Adelaide, (John Tapscott); Mississauga, Ont.; Jean Ann (Brian Matheson), Orangedale; Isabelle (Joey Barrett), Dartmouth; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Alexandria (MacFadyen) (1989); son, Allan Clayton (2007); grandson, Jason Gillis (2000); daughter–in-law, Marilyn Gillis (2009); brothers, Lloyd, Walter, Wilfred, Russell.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 in Orangedale United Church with Rev. Karen Ross and Rev. John Tapscott officiating. Burial to follow in Orangedale–Gillis Cove Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Orangedale Smith Community Centre. Memorial donations in Harry’s memory may be made to Orangedale–Gillis Cove Cemetery. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
