GOOGOO, Bernard James "Bernie B" - Age 80 of We’koqma’q First Nations. It is with tearful eyes and heavy hearts that we, the family of Bernard James Googoo, announce that his golden heart stopped beating and his hard working hands at rest. On Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 11:33 a.m. at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Bernard took his final journey to reunite with his parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters & lifelong friends in the spiritual realm; God proved us that he only takes the best. Bernie B, as he loved to be called, was born on July 19, 1939, to late Michael P. & Ellen (Sylliboy) Googoo in We’koqma’q First Nation, in the presence of his esteemed grandfather, Grand Chief Gabriel Sylliboy. Kji Saqamaw would then spend the coming months nurturing premature Bernie B until he was a healthy birth weight. Bernie was proud to be cared for by Kji Saqamaw. Bernie B was a great man who always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lip. He had the most caring personality, he loved hard and his family was the most precious love in the world to him. He was an extraordinary story teller, whether it is legends or jokes, he always had the best comedic set up & timing. There was no doubt that you would leave him in awe from the amazing stories or still laughing from the jokes you heard, either way you left him better than you were when you arrived. Bernie B was the first We’koqma’q man to graduate from NSIT in Motor Vehicle Repair. In 1968, he received his 4 year apprenticeship. As such, he was huge a car enthusiast and collector of model cars. He was a jack of all trades, not only was he a mechanic, he also was a carpenter, plumber and could accomplish electrical work as well. If he didn’t know how to fix it, he could figure it out. He was so proud to also serve his community as a band councillor for many years. On his past time, he loved to enjoy nature. Whether it is bird watching on his back step, or out on the water fishing, he found beauty in the world. He loved boating and had owned the most unique boats in the past - including his prized possession - his very own "BERNIE B" boat. He was survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Jean, of 56 years, 1 month shy of 57 years; his precious gems, his daughter, Linda (Bobby); his sons, Dodd and Louie (Muriel); his grandchildren, Cassandra, Dakota, Avery, Dmitri, Storm, Lucinda, Robbi, Victoria, Lyndon, & Shane; his great-grandchildren whom he thought the world of; Sandreya, Elias, Zalie, Eden & Stannis; his loving sisters & bingo buddies, Anna (Francis) and Geraldine; adopted sisters, Barbara Matheson, Bridget Marshall, Matilda Koopman; godchildren, Herman Young, Harriet Nicholas, Sunshine Bernard, Michael Paul, Lillian Googoo, Vivian Googoo, Christopher Sealy, Roddie Paul, Mary Florence Bernard, Chuckie Peck, countless nieces and nephews; his best friend, Joe Mike. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Ellen; his siblings, William, Gabriel, Ryan J, Alex R, Stanley, Mary B, Germaine, Michael & Janet; his adopted brothers, Wayne, Henry, Donald, his highly esteemed godson & best friend, Sheldon Googoo Sr., and his best friend Benjamin Bernard. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. LaFrance, Dr. Ritter, and all of the wonderful nursing staff at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital - thank you for taking such good care of our dad & for your hospitality. Special thanks to Kji Saqamaw Norman Sylliboy for your spiritual guidance in our time of need.
