LaFosse, George Robert -82, Port Hawkesbury, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Cape La Hune, NL in 1932, he was a son of the late James Edward and Abigail (Spencer) LaFosse. He started working as a Telegraph Operator/Postmaster for 5 years and then went to work for CN Communications for 20 years. During the late 60s and early 70s in Bonne Bay Newfoundland he was a honoured member of the Lions Club where he held most offices including President, Treasurer, Zone Chairman. He was also President of Community Club and responsible for many community improvements. He was well recognized for his achievements upon his moving to Nova Scotia from Newfoundland. He moved to West Bay in 1974 to operate a convenience store. The following year he started as a security guard at Nova Scotia Forest Industries Mill in Point Tupper for 23 years, retiring at 65. He lived in West Bay for 9 years and then many moves later, he settled in Port Hawkesbury. Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby (Snow); daughters, Yvonne (Donald) MacKay, St. George’s Channel; Elaine (Gerard) Jellow, Cape Jack; Christine (Leo) MacDonald, Port Hawkesbury; sons, Norman (Norma), Gander, NL; Donald, St. George’s Channel; Shawn, Port Hawkesbury; brother, Harry (Hazel Kettle), Port aux Basques, NL; grandchildren, Shane, Christopher, Alesia, Amanda, Robert, Jennie, Cindy, Sherri, Natasha; great-grandchildren, Amber, Evan, Alex, Madison, Hannah, River. He was predeceased by infant son, George James; sister, Alice. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Port Hawkesbury with Rev. Evelyn Knorr officiating. Burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
