Halfpenny, Gordon Clifford, age 83 of Sand Point, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully in Guysborough Memorial Hospital on Sunday, May 17, 2015.
He was born in Middle Melford, the son of the late Russell and Beatrice (Somers) Halfpenny. He will be sadly missed by wife, Hazel (Hadley); daughter, Darlene (Donnie) MacIntyre; sons, Douglas, Fred, Robert (Donna) and Kevin (Liz); nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and his little buddy Bailey. Also survived by brothers, Everett (Wilma) and Ira (Liz); sister, Evelyn, sister-in-law, Isabel and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Douglas, Seymour and Calvin, brother-in-law, Vannie; sister-in-law, Layola.
Gordon was a fisherman for seventy years, known as the Grampa of the wharf, a great gardener and was one of the founders of Seven Community Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from Stora Papermill in 1990. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held in St. James Anglican Church Melford on Saturday, May 23 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Evelyn Knorr officiating. Burial in St. James Cemetery. Donations in Gordon’s name may be made to St. James Anglican Church, Middle Melford.
