Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Griffith, Marie Rita (Kenny) 99, Port Hawkesbury, N.S., passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on Sunday, January 2, 2022. Born in Six Roads, N.B. on August 9, 1922 the eldest daughter of Alex and Mary Inchbald (Ferguson) Kenny, she left home during the war years moving to Saint John where she met and married her soulmate of 64 years, Gordon Jackson. Later they moved to Chatham, NB, Dartmouth NS and finally to Port Hawkesbury in 1965.
She is survived by sons; Gordon (Helen Ann), Long Point, Reg (Ann), Dartmouth, daughter; Dawn (Randal), Port Hawkesbury, daughter in law; Donna, Moncton, grandchildren; Lindsay (Tom), Richmond, BC, Aaron (Stacey), Dartmouth, NS, Travis, Montreal, PQ, Adele (Darcy), Dartmouth, NS, Jesse (Jackie), Walton, NS, Craig (Thea), Halifax, NS, Shamus (Dee), Wood Point, NB, great grandchildren; Charlotte Elizabeth and Alden, brothers; Dave (Doris), Pokemouche, NB, Warren, Etiobicoke, sister; Emmeline, Shippegan, NB and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Gordon, son; Daniel, brothers; Jim, Ben, Walter, Amos and sisters; Alexina, and Julie Ann.
She was a member of St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church and a former ladies Guild member. She became actively involved in the Guiding Scouting movement starting early in the 50s as a Boy Scout Leader continuing on with Brownies and Guides. She enjoyed ceramics of which many beautiful figurines she gifted to family and friends. Her and "Griff" were avid bowlers and together accumulated many trophies over the years. Their year was highlighted with trips to New Brunswick to visit with siblings and with son Dan, Donna and boys, enjoying card games and family times. Mom was a generous, caring soul giving freely of anything she possessed. (You could never admire anything you weren’t prepared to take home with you!) She was a wonderful cook and baker and many pies, fruitcakes and fudge left her kitchen to be shared with friends, family and strangers alike. Her knitting needles never stopped from childhood until she was well into her nineties. She loved her home and took great pride and much enjoyment from her garden, which sometimes extended to the neighbors as well. Her caring nature included all creatures; dogs, cats and birds often shared her home simultaneously. Mom worked at many different places during her life but her favorite was her last job as "Mrs. G" playground supervisor at the local school. Through a century of change, war and progress Marie was steadfast, rising to every challenge with her feisty spirit and unfailing faith.
Above all, Rita loved her family and her home and was blessed to have lived and enjoy it for so long. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, and fulfilled each role with dedication, determination and the worlds’ best hugs.
Many thanks to Dr. James Collins and staff, Port Hawkesbury Continuing Care and her special angels, Sarah, Edie, Kathleen, and all who helped us to keep Mom in the home she loved. Special thanks to loving niece Pauline and husband Elmer.
