FANNING, Thomas Gerald - 86, Canso, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Gerald and Lillian (Morris) Fanning. He was a veteran of the Second World War and was a life member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 46 for 11 years. In December of 2003, Tom received the Queens Medal for volunteer service to his community. He was a well-known and well-liked resident of Canso and a member of Star of the Sea Parish, Canso. He is survived by sisters, Florence (Clarence) Bona, Whitney Pier; Genesta MacKenzie, Canso; Valencia (William) MacKinlay, Halifax; Mary (Bruce) Greenlaw, St. Catharine's, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mamie, Eileen, Marjorie, Lillian; brothers, Donnie, Charles, and Bob. Visitation will be held Friday from 2-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Star of the Sea Church, Canso, Rev. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to Star of the Sea Parish Building Fund. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
