Fanning, Margaret Irene - 71, Little Dover, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born in Peas Brook, Guys. Co., she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Margaret (Hanlon) George. Irene was a member of St. Agnes Parish, Little Dover. She was very active in her community and supported many activities and local charities. She worked at the telephone office, in Canso for 15 years and the fish plant in Canso for 28 years. Irene is survived by her husband, Albert Fanning, Little Dover; daughter, Karen (Mike) Casey, Little Dover; son, Eric (Charity) Fanning, Hazel Hill; grandchildren, Shawna Casey, Shelby and Keisha Oickle, Janelle, Shaneya and Sarah Collings, Lynn Haines and Jason Casey; great- grandchildren, Noah, Jacob and Jessie Haines ; Jack, Bethany and Kayla Casey. Also leaving to mourn her loss are sisters, Pauline Saver, Halifax; and Dorothy Marshal, Boston, Mass., USA; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sisters, Olga Abraham, Cora Sutherland and Thelma Munroe; brothers, Lloyd and Raymond George. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday in St. Agnes Parish Hall, Little Dover. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday in St Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Little Dover, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial at a later date in the parish cemetery.
